SHOPPING IN BARCELONA

Shops in Barcelona combine tradition with the lifelong establishments and modernity with the most important international brands. The city is renamed as a paradise of shopping.

There is a commercial route of approximately 5 kilometres called "Barcelona Shopping Line", it runs from Port Vell, la Ribera, el Raval to Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter where traditional shops can be found, antique and art shops. The route continues up to "Passeig de Gràcia" , "Rambla de Catalunya" and ends at Diagonal avenue, where the most selected and prestigious boutiques of the city are placed.

 

 

OPENING HOURS

Shops in Barcelona are opened from 9.00/10.00 to 13.30/14.00 and in the afternoon from 16.30/17.00 to 20.00/21.00 from Monday to Saturday. Large malls and department stores are opened at lunch time and they usually close at 22.00. 

Sundays, all shops are closed, except in special dates such as Christmas time on December, or first Sunday summer and winter sales.

 

 

POPULAR MARKETS:

If you ever come to Barcelona, you can't miss any of our 40 city markets. Here you have some of the most important markets:

  

  • Boqueria market (or Sant Josep), inaugurated in 1836 this is the most popular market situated right on Ramblas boulevard. Visiting "La Boqueria" is a must. You will find a variety of specialized establishments as well as the following products: fresh fruits, tropical fruits, "delicatessen"  and take away home made food.

 

 

  • Santa Caterina's market, situated in "La Ribera" quarter and inaugurated in 1848, it is the second oldest market of the city. Its recently renovation was carried out by the famous architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue, their design has turned completely the market into one of the most modern building of Barcelona.

 

 

  • Sant Antoni's market, inaugurated in September 1882. Actullay it is divided into 3 markets: the food market in the interior, the market of clothes, shoes, textiles and home tools outside, only 4 days a week. And there is a market of old and second hand books on Sundays.

 

 

  • "Concepció" market, built in 1880, it is the oldest of the "Eixample", the modernist area of the city. Its complete renovation was inaugurated in 1998.
