BEACHES OF BARCELONA

 

The sea is one of the greatest attractions of Barcelona, considered a coastal, Mediterranean city and main Cruise harbour.

Barcelona is an open city to the sea and its coastline is occupied by the city's beaches, more than 4,5 kilometres of sand to enjoy the mild Mediterranean climate.

The average year round temperature is 19º C, and the mild climate means that the beaches can be used throughout the year for all kind of activities.

 

BATHING SEASON CALENDAR:

 

The City Council establishes every year a calendar to cover all the requirements in terms of installations, services and facilities during the beach season.

Usually, the period between mid March and mid October is when there is a major affluence of people and when the life saving service and life guard servicer are on offer every day.

These are the equipments to be found in the Barcelona's beaches: children's play area, gym and sports area, parking spaces, public toilets, adapted showers, city police, beach chair rental, parasol rental, ice cream and beverage stands, etc.

 

THE BEACHES:

 

  • Sant Sebastià:

Located in the Ciutat Vella district, San Sebastià is together with Barceloneta, the oldest and most traditional. Sant Sebastià is also one of the longest, measuring approximately 1,100 m.

 

  • Barceloneta:

Approximately 1,100 m long, together with the Sant Sebastià beach, and is one of the biggest and oldest in Barcelona. It is commonly used by youth groups and for school activities because of its installations and services such as leisure areas, children's play areas and gym areas. 

 

  • Nova Icària:

Nova Icària Beach is 400 m long and is one of the quietest. It is frequented mostly by families with children and also groups of friends.

 

  • Bogatell:

Bogatell beach is approximately 600 m long and is one of the most appreciated amongst the visitors due to its safety. It can be reached easily by bicycle thanks to a cycle track.

 

  • Mar Bella:

Mar Bella beach is approximately 500 m long and has a designated nudist beach area. The users are mainly young people.

 

  • Nova Mar Bella:

Nova Mar Bella Beach is approximately 500 m long and it forms part of the new beaches that were created when the Barcelona seafront was restored due to the 1992 Olympic Games. It is said that It is the women's favourite beach.

 

  • Llevant:

This is the last of the beaches created in Barcelona, in 2006. Its length is approximately 380 m and has basic installations and facilities.

 

The beaches of Barcelona are easily accessible from Hotel Royal Ramblas. The bus lines 14 and 59, which are only a few steps from the hotel, are the best option to take a nice ride to the seafront.
